This was a very busy week. But I’ll have to wait a week or two to share what we’ve been working on 😃.
Hiring for ZmURL
We’re growing the ZmURL team!
Here a couple of the roles we are looking for. If you know anyone who might be a good fit, I’d love an intro :).
Software Engineer — We use Typescript, React, Postgres, etc. More importantly, we’re looking for full-stack builders who move quickly and care about product.
Growth Marketer — So far we’ve grown ZmURL with word of mouth. We’re looking for a growth marketer to find and onboard creators and hosts.
Un-American Book Review
In my junior year at MIT, I studied abroad in Oxford for 6 months. While at Oxford, I made friends with a clean-cut American who was insanely fit. Turns out, his statuesque physique came from, in part, his experience as a Ranger in the US Army.
A month ago, he published Un-American which tells his story in the military — how he went from an enthusiastic West Point freshman to a disgruntled, disheartened, depressed soldier in Afghanistan patrolling a road for IEDs.
Before reading this book, I knew a little about the War in Iraq which I thought was a waste of time, money, and human life. But I didn’t begin to imagine the scale of utter horror and absurdity of the War in Afghanistan.
Erik begins his tour in Afghanistan by driving over an IED on his fourth day and it’s downhill from there. His platoon has a circular purpose: patrol the road for IEDs so that supply trucks can reach them so that they can patrol the road for IEDs. All to great cost.
Personal Life
Today, I rode my bike to Ocean Beach and down the Great Highway which is now blocked off to cars. It was a reminder of how easy it is to reclaim our streets to pedestrians and bikers.
